The catalogue
We have used the term cello sonata on this website to mean a sonata composed for cello and piano. Perhaps the sonatas for solo cello and other works for solo cello or cello and piano will have their turn at a later stage, but at this point that is all music for the future.
On this page you can view a list of all Dutch composers who have one or more sonatas for cello and piano to their name. With just a few exceptions they all belong to the twentieth century. A list of websites dedicated to composers can be found under the Info page of this website.
The standard work on twentieth-century Dutch music is: Leo Samama, Nederlandse muziek in de 20-ste eeuw. Voorspel tot een nieuwe dag* (fully revised second edition; Amsterdam University Press–Salomé, 2006). Unfortunately this book has not been published in English.
Encyclopaedic information about a number of composers can be found in: Jolande van der Klis (editor), The Essential Guide to Dutch Music. 100 Composers and Their Work (Amsterdam University Press, 2000).
